The DMR Association is a global organization focused on helping to make DMR the most widely supported 21st century digital radio standard for the business world.
Through a combination of interoperability testing, certification, education, and awareness the Association is working to ensure that business buyers of today's digital radio technology gain ongoing value through the competition and choice derived from an open, multi-vendor value chain.
The DMR Association was first set up in 2005 as the DMR-MOU Association by a group of leading public mobile radio manufacturers to support ETSI during the DMR standardisation process. The DMR Association is open to any organisation or individual interested in using or building DMR products or in supporting the DMR standard in other ways. The Association maintains links with regulators, trade bodies and standards organisations around the world.
The purpose of the DMR Association is to help grow the DMR market by removing barriers to interoperability and supporting innovation and adoption of the standard via the creation of new devices and services.
Association members
plan to accomplish this by:
•
Creating an interoperability testing and certification program
• Working with regulators to develop a favorable environment for DMR
networks to flourish
• Increasing awareness about the DMR standard through education, promotion
and discussion
The DMR Association comprises a Board and an elected Chairperson. The Board initiates the actions necessary to fulfil the purpose of the DMR Association and determines the membership fees. Each member company has the right to attend Board meetings. Category One and Category Two members have voting rights.
Most of the Association’s detailed work is undertaken by two specialist working groups, one for technical issues and one for marketing, reporting to the Board.
The Technical Working Group is focused on interoperability and other technical matters such as developments to the standard. The Marketing Working Group deals with issues related to education and awareness about the standard.
The officers of the Association are elected from the membership.
MEET OUR TEAM
Mario
Micheli is a telecommunications engineer who works
for SELEX Communications. During his 20 year career,
Mario has held numerous technical and management
positions and is currently responsible for the analysis
of future market trends in the professional and military
communications business.
“I am convinced that a genuine interoperable and multi-vendor
product offering is a key to the success for a new PMR technology.
DMR equipment, regardless of the manufacturer, is to be truly
interoperable allowing for a healthy competition in the market
that will result in continuous product innovation. For these
reasons I firmly believe that DMR is positioned as the ideal
candidate to substitute many legacy analogue systems and
that the DMR Association has a fundamental role to achieve
this objective.”

Margaret Grant has over ten years’ product management experience in the radio communications industry. Starting as a Product Development Manager with the Airwave network in the UK, she then moved to New Zealand to work for Tait Radio Communications, where she is now a Portfolio Manager. Margaret leads the Tait Analogue and DMR product management team and is enthusiastic about the spectral efficiency, flexibility and data benefits DMR technology brings to customers.
Tom Mockridge is a member of Motorola’s PMR product management team. Tom has held a wide variety of roles in the telecommunications industry. He started out working for the UK regulator of pay per call services and then moved into commercial positions with network service providers. Tom is a great believer in the energy efficiency benefits that DMR brings to the PMR user community.
The DMR Association membership structure aims to make the Association open and accessible to all of its constituents including: manufacturers, end users, regulators, standards organisations, test houses, and application developers.
